Judge, 248th District Court, Harris County, Texas

2013 – 2018

Appointed by Gov. Perry to the bench to fill an unexpired term, and served a second term after leading a successful campaign. Presided over pretrial matters and heard felony jury trials including capital murder, aggravated robbery, sexual assault, crimes against children, and property crimes. Presided over an additional docket for Drug Court, which focused on rehabilitation of the repeat, high-risk offender, rather than incarceration. Served until end of term in 2018.

Executive Director, Crime Stoppers of Houston, Inc.

2006 – 2013

Leader of the largest nonprofit organization of its kind in the country. Managed a budget of $5 million, a staff of more than 20, and the tip line, 713-222-TIPS. Initiated programs to reduce the number of fugitive felony offenders in the community, including programs focusing on prevention of human trafficking, animal cruelty, and child abuse. Fundraising included a gift of $1 million, the largest donation ever received by the organization at the time.

1995 – 2006

Prosecuted thousands of cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. Promoted to Chief Prosecutor in a felony district court. Tried felony jury trials, including capital murder, sexual assault, crimes against children, and white-collar crimes.
